Type A — sanitary transport
For stable patients who need organised medical transport without continuous intensive monitoring for the whole journey.
What this means for you
Type A fits when the condition is stable and the risk of deterioration en route is judged low by a physician.
It does not mean “no care”: it means crew and equipment matched to a stable patient.
If instability appears, the plan can change — including to a higher level.
When type A is discussed
- After medical review of the file.
- When distance and duration fit this level.
- When destination can receive the patient without immediate intensive care.
Guidelines and legal frame (briefly)
- A/B/C classification describes equipment and mission type; in Romania it links to ambulance service regulation.
- Choosing the type is medical: over-spec costs money; under-spec risks safety.
- Even at type A, documents and handover remain required for a proper transfer.
Signs you may need more than type A
- High-flow continuous oxygen or a ventilator.
- Recent instability (blood pressure, breathing, consciousness).
- IV medicines that need close supervision.
- Destination plan includes intensive care.
